Sweet & Sour Pork

If you want a tasty dish for all the family to enjoy but want to knock it out in double time, this is the one for you

Prepare all the ingredients before you start cooking as you will need them all in quick succession.



1 tsp cornflour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
2-3 tbsp. stir fry oil
4 good sized pork loins, cut into strips
4 spring onions, sliced
1 small carrot, very finely chopped and diced
2cm fresh ginger, peeled and grated
1 clove of garlic, crushed
2red chillies, de-seeded and finely diced
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1/2 small pineapple, cored and cut into small cubes
1 yellow and 1 red pepper, deseeded and chopped into fine strips
1 pack fresh noodles
1 pack bean sprouts
Salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce

175 ml water
175ml rice wine vinegar
175 ml Heinz tomato ketchup
6tbs runny honey
1tsp Worcestershire sauce
3tbs cornflour, mixed in a little water


  • Place all the sauce ingredients into a bowl and mix together.
  • Set to one side until the pork is cooked and is ready for the sauce to be added.
  • Using a plastic food bag, add the pork and cornflour, seal the bag and shake until the meat is well coated.
  • Heat up a large wok until it is very hot, add half of the oil and carefully add the coated pork strips to the wok using tongs, turning over in the hot oil, and cook for 3-4 minutes or until the meat is browned on all sides.
  • Remove the pork and keep warm.
  • Add the remaining oil to the wok, heat up until hot then add the spring onions, carrot, peppers, garlic. chillies and ginger and cook for 3 minutes, tossing throughout.
  • Return the pork to the wok, add the pineapple chunks and soy sauce and mix to combine, cooking for a further minute.
  • Now add the sauce and noodles and bring back to the boil, reduce the heat down to a slow simmer then add the beansprouts and continue to simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Serve immediately and season to taste.
