Mel and Mal's English Breakfast in the Halogen Oven

  • 4 sausages of your choice
  • 4 rashers of bacon
  • 2 large tomatoes, halved
  • 2 eggs
  • Spray oil

There is nothing like a full English breakfast to set you up for the day. It doesn't have to be fiddly and done in a halogen oven, it is all cooked in one place - less washing up!

Serves : 2        Prep/Cooking Time : Approx 20 minutes

Get Grilling

Place a round baking tin in the bottom of the glass bowl - this will catch all the juices from the meat to use later for the eggs.

Using the HIGH rack, lay the sausages directly onto it so they do not touch and spray with a little oil, not too much as the meat will render its' own fats.

Set the temperature to 220°C and the timer for 5 minutes, put the lid on and start cooking.

When the pinger goes off, remove the lid, make room for the bacon and tomatoes, spraying the tomatoes with a little oil to stop them drying out on the top.

Replace the lid and continue to cook for a further 5-10 minutes. The length of time depends on the thickness of the sausages i.e. chipolatas will take less time than thick sausages. Cook longer if you want crispy bacon.

Fry your Eggs

When the sausages, bacon and tomatoes are cooked to your liking, remove from the oven and place in a warmed dish and cover with foil.

Lift the baking tin from the bottom of the bowl which now will have the juices and fats from the bacon and sausages inside, place the LOWER rack in then put the baking tin onto this.

Crack the eggs and spoon a little of the fat on top of each. Replace the lid and cook the eggs for around 3 minutes until they are done to your taste.

Optional Extras

If you like a bit of fried bread, simply place into a round baking tin and brush the bread with melted lard or oil. Place on the HIGH rack, set the temperature to 220°C and the timer to 3 minutes. "Fry" until the bread is browned and serve. You can cook this as the same time as you are frying the eggs, using the high and low racks. (If you only have one rack, put the eggs in the tin on the base of the glass bowl and use the rack only for the fried bread).

Baked beans or tinned tomatoes need to be cooked in the traditional way, either in a microwave or on the hob top.
